The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is the first actually PlayStation smartphone to come from Sony Ericsson! Let it be the first of many! Any device that combines the already great functionality of a gaming console into a phone along with high spec gaming features is a winner with us! The Xperia Play features real gaming controls, gaming keys, touch sensitive gaming controls and an analog touch joystick all hidden beneath the large 4 inch colour screen!
The Xperia Play runs an Andriod operating systems (version 2.3) integrated a whole host of features along with multi-tasking, video calling and a refreshed user interface! The Play has a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, image stabilization, video recording and geo-tagging. Geo-tagging simply enables the phone to tag your photos with the location in which they were taken, you can then view them back on a interactive map! As well as being able to amazing high quality games the phone also has a host of multimedia functions such as a Media player allowing you to play most file types of music and video, a host of google software pre installed such as Maps, Gmail and Google Talk. TrackID allowing you to get the track name and artist of any music simply by playing some of the music at the phone.
The Xperia Play has an OK internal memory of 400Mb but this can be expanded to up to 32Gb with the use of a microSD memory card, a 8Gb card is included in the box to get you started! Other features of the play include a document viewer and editor, active noise cancellation functionality, built in stereo speakers for excellent music quality, not forgetting, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity!

Not impressed with this phone whatsoever, its slow and keeps crashing on me, if you want a gaming device buy a PSP!

I was initially excited when I opened up my Christmas present to find the Xperia Play, but that was short lived, the phone did not turn on. Opening the back of the phone to insert the battery and SIM card was horribly difficult and so difficult we thought we would snap or crack it! After finally sliding the phone up we got a better grip on opening it up, still difficult though. Battery and SIM properly inserted, but phone would not turn on. The FAQ section of the manual explained that the phone's battery came pre-charged and would not need charging, we tried charging it anyways. Once charged for 4 hours, like the old school iPod, we tried turning it on once again, but it would not.
We took it into the phone store the next day and we were immediately offered a replacement, not comforting as it seemed this model of phone was prone to issues and replacement was the easiest option. After finally receiving a working a handset we turned it on and began use. Unlike the IPhone, the Xperia Play's organisation is a bit jumbled and messy even if it is in rows, seems cluttered. The thing feels bulky and it about the same size of my wallet. Game play is easy use, but not worth the size.
Overall, initial fault, back panel difficult to open, too large, and busy screen... not my favourite phone.
