The Google Pixel 3 stands out for its camera, which is definitely one of the best smartphone cameras on the market right now, and there's not much doubt about that. It proves that it's more than possible to fit a high-quality camera into a compact phone. With a 5.5-inch screen, the Pixel 3 is a very manageable size and is very comfortable to hold and use. The design of the phone might not blow you away, but it's functional, unfussy and performs well.
Despite only having a single lens camera on the back, Google has created a 12.2MP camera that makes use of innovative machine-learning software that produces photos you won't believe came from a single lens smartphone camera. There are also two 8MP front-facing cameras. One of the lenses is wider for when you want to take a wider-angle selfie with more people or you want to get more of the background in the shot.
The camera's HDR has been enhanced and the photos the Pixel 3 produces are more detailed than ever before. If you care about creating great photos but you don't want to take a camera or a DSLR wherever you go, the Google Pixel 3 is a very adequate alternative. It's certainly the phone for people who prioritise the camera on a smartphone above and beyond any of the other features.

The OLED screen looks fantastic too, so it's obvious that the Pixel 3 has more to offer than it's very impressive photo-taking capabilities. The screen is not bezel-less, which might seem a strange decision in 2019 but there's plenty of screen here and it's a clear and definite upgrade on the Pixel 2 screen. The colours are rich and vibrant, so you won't feel let down in this department.
The design of the phone has the now-familiar Google two-tone style with a half glass, half matte finish to the back of the phone. It looks stylish and offers a high-quality feel. The phone even has some benefits over the Pixel 3 XL model. In particular, it avoids the notch in the screen that many people find unappealing. It's also very easy to use with one hand and you won't have any trouble using it thanks to the more compact screen size.
There are three colours to choose from if you're looking to buy a Google Pixel 3. All of them are rather simple and muted, so nothing will jump out and offer extravagance if that's what you're looking for. There's Just Black, Clearly White and Not Pink.
There are some sacrifices to be made if you want to choose this phone over some of its direct competitors. The battery life is good, but not as good as some of the alternatives. It has a 2,915 mAh battery, which is still more than most previous Google smartphones. The XL has a bigger battery and lasts longer. But all in all, it's a very strong smartphone with a lot to offer, especially if you love taking great photos on the go.
